Safe Railroad Crossings

Maitland and Winter Park are teaming up for a project to improve the safety of several railroad crossings in this area.

Work will add or modify sidewalks and curbs, patch asphalt and add extra cross arms and lights to locations where the railroad crosses streets through the center of Maitland. The changes will improve safety for vehicles and pedestrians while also allowing trains to use their horns less often.

Construction started earlier this month at Greenwood Boulevard west of U.S. Highway 17-92. The rail crossing at Horatio Avenue and Maitland Avenue also is being improved along with George Avenue and West Ventris Avenue. Improvements at Packwood Avenue were recently completed.

The project could last until late May. Motorists should use extra caution in these areas and watch for workers.
