Create an Emergency Response Plan

Create a family plan for everyone to follow during a major storm. Discuss the plan with each member of your family.

Know where to meet up and where everyone will stay throughout the emergency. Make sure that your host location is storm ready, or plan to stay at a storm shelter.

Gather everyone’s cell phone numbers if you do not already have them. Keep important numbers in writing in your purse or wallet in case you are unable to access the contact list on your phone.

If possible, select an out-of-state contact for everyone to check in with their status during an emergency.

Keep in mind some of these factors when developing your plan:
• Different ages of members within your household
• Responsibilities for assisting others
• Locations frequented
• Dietary needs
• Medical needs including prescriptions and equipment
• Disabilities or access and functional needs including devices and equipment
• Pets or service animals
• Households with school-aged children
